Recorded Delivery

I have had loads of problems with recorded delivery in my area, it either takes ages or doesn't turn up at all. I am awaiting a very important wedding gift for my hubby to be and it was posted a week ago, recorded delivery (yes, I know I should have got it to be sent Special Delivery!) and I haven't received it yet. I know that I can't do anything until after 15 working days, and I have got insurance via the seller and paypal and the �30 Post office insurance but that is beside the point. This product is irreplacable, a one off and I am tearing my hair out at the moment. After the 15 days is up do you think I could get the police involved as this is the 4th recorded delivery item in the last 2 years that hasn't arrived? This is really upsetting me at a very hectic time and I was hoping for some advice. Thanks

You could try but i dont think it will get you anywhere.  recorded delivery is just the same as ordinary post except that it is signed for at the other end!

 

Something similar happened to me, something irreplaceable got lost and the only thing i got was �30 compensation!

I would suggest getting the parcel number and contacting your local delivery office direct to see if they can advise you.  I find going through Royal Mail general Customer Services can be a bit like banging your head against a brick wall!

nickymanley, If you are sending something through the post that is valuable it should be sent registered post, recorded delivery is a waste of time and money.

Since this is the 4th time it is possible that it is being stolen by post office staff, write to the postmaster and insist that the post office investigation branch look into it.

You mention paypal this isn't from ebay is it?

Ebay is not the problem here, it's the postal service. I've had recorded items go missing, and often they get returned to sender without leaving a card here.

Now with anything either rare, valuable or large I never go with Royal Mail. There are lots of alternative couriers, (I often use CityLink) who will do the job for a little bit more, but it will get there.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate that recorded delivery through the Royal Mail was probably the worst option I could have chosen but this was through ebay and it was the only option available. I will insist in future it is sent either registered or through another company, unfortunately this doesn't help me now. I do have a track and trace number but this service is next to useless as it only traces the package once it has been signed for. The last time a dvd and cd got "lost" the post office found the empty packages months later and told me they would investigate - didn't ever get a response. The sender is aware of the problem so if it is returned to them I am sure they will let me know! If it isn't delivered within the 15 working days I shall write to the postmaster and insist on an investigation - maybe threaten going to the local newspaper and the police?!

Thanks for all the help and advice guys - just to let you know - the package arrived yesterday!! Panic over, but I will refrain from using Recorded Delivery in the future!

for 1p you can ask the sender to get Proof of Posting...then use Recorded Delivery.

 

Then you'll know it's lost in the post!

Pleased you got your package.  My mam sent some papers for a three-figure refund using recorded.  No sign of them, and when you complain they don't even read them - they send a reply which is nowt to do with what you wrote!  We sent them the recorded ticket number, but they wanted a "certificate" - then why bother paying for recorded?  Our compensation for the three-figure loss?  Six stamps.  You have my sympathy!

As  a postman  of some 28 years  of service  im  sorry to hear you had trouble with your mail.Recorded delivery is still a good service but really for documents  not valubles  . If you think  you have a problem  with your mail  id  advise  you phone  and write  to the manager of your local  delivery office  and ask  him to check out whats happing to the mail for your home.A lot can depend on who your postman  is    is he regular  or just a temp  .But  i can assure everyone  royal mail  is working very hard  to try and get the service  as best as it possibly can.  best wishes
