Somebody really hurt me by damaging my reputation and spreading lies about me it has caused me great pain over a year unable to get over it. I know she has a special birthday coming up over the next few weeks and I wanted to send her a sympathy card instead of a birthday card saying that I hope unhappiness, misery and bad luck and ill health will become her over the next year for all the pain she has caused others, I know of 2 more people she has hurt badly. I know its not very nice but it will get it out of my system, it may mar her day slightly that is a postiive for me or it may not but I just want to make sure it is not illegal I dont see how it could be it surely is not illegal to wish you someone ill if you have no intention of doing it to yourself. But i would not do it if it was illegal Im paying enough with my own bitterness without paying other ways.

^^without a stamped envelope, so they pay postage.....
Not worth the postage stamp!

Please, just forget it.
I send my brother a nasty card every year, but then he does to me too.
Yes ..... in short - dont do it

I know all the lawyers above are queuing up to be cuddly and sweet and in a "dont do it Gordie, coz you're really nice. " mode. But this is the law thread

In 1988 - O god I know how everyone objects to personal experience as tho it somehow clouds advice rather than illuminates..... in 1988 one of the porters' ex wives sent a letter to the new girl friend

" Drop dead botch !" but of course for those who are literal minded - the word wasnt really "botch" and she didnt sign it. But he still knew who it was from !

He showed me and was cheerful about who had written it - his ex wife and the police were cheerful about going around and warning her.

so - Gordie dont do it

There something called the Malicious Communications Act
and there is a lot here...

http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/communications_offences/

pages of the stuff - it will keep you off the streets for days if you attempt to read all of it

There is also the Misuse of Postal thingeys Act - the one that the Royal Mail use if you are sending pornography thro the post. That will also be on the URL I have included, about half way down.

so dont - it may endanger your wallet ( fine ) or your freedom ( prison ) well not really but you know what I mean

Historically - the habit grew up 1850-1860 of sending really malicious Valentines - and it almost wrecked the industry. Yeah OK off point - I know it will trigger 1,000 complaints

so if you are in an advice taking mood Gordie - dont do it
The way to do this gordie is to send the sweetest most OTT & gushing card you can find & inside write TO *----* & FROM gordie NO other garbage in there at all. She will not know what to make of it & you can sit back & snigger to your hearts content
Good Idea WR

yes Gordie it IS against the law - see the URL above that I give

clearly against s1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988

nichty nochty do do - that is meant to be scots for "dont do it Gordie!"

For goodness sake, NO, Gordie!
It will reflect very badly on you and you will have to live with what you have done.
I doubt if it is illegal, but certainly unwise.
Great idea, Whiskeryron, that's what I would do
Don't do it, gordie - you'll not only portray yourself as bad as she is, but you'll open up yourself for her coming back to you with more horribleness. Don't lower yourself to her level - just square your shoulders and leave it, leave it as it is. These things fester if you keep mulling over them, it won't make anything better. It's won't get it out of your system at all, you'll then either get a swift retribution from her or you'll be mulling it over for weeks more, wondering what she thought.
Speaking as someone who got my ex charged with breach of telecommunications act then you must be mad to consider anything like this. What could YOU possibly gain from this
The fact that you are asking if it is illegal, Gordie, suggests to me that you may fear the consequences of an illegal act.
My advice is not to even dream of it.
As one or two posters said, rise above it.
And completely ignore the posts which are anything but helpful.

hey Cazza you gave your ex a licking - erm with your GTS ?

what did he get - fine or injuction or both ?
Bearing grudges and being vindictive is corrosive to the vindictive grudge bearer and will have unforseen cosequences. Put it in the past where it can harm no-one, you will be a better person for it.
Please don't lower yourself to her level, you're better than that. This is eating away at you while she has moved on and has probably forgotten all about it. Do the same, move on and put it down to experience. I firmly believe in what goes around comes around.
He got a fine. Anything up to 100 texts a day was a seriously bonkers guy so jealous and possessive. When I was really ill once he came to see me out with visiting hours by pretending to have came from work in Fort William when he actually lived and worked in Glasgow

A packet of gift wrapped sage and onion always gets the message across I feel!
Why waste the postage?
As a regular church attender you seem strangly ignorant of the Christian commitment to forgivness and 'turning the other cheek'.
Forgivness is a fundamental tenant of Christianity

Remember 'The Lord's Prayer' on the subject!
