Old_Geezer - the age-old 'Haven't you got anything better to do?' argument advanced when crime occurs is as frequent as it is redundant.
Crime is not an 'either / or' concept.
Justice does not work on the notion of ignoring one sent of crimes because another set are deemed as more serious - if it did, then every police force would investigate murders, and concentrate all their manpower and resources on those, so everything else would be ignored.
Yes, violent crime is serious, but speeding is still a crime and should not be put on the back burner at any time.

I do not know why you would question that, motorists who were going faster than the arbitrary set limit, were low hanging fruit. That is obvious.
And terrorists kill relatively few people so hardly surprising many other things in life do more. It is not a reasonable comparison.
Whether the speed limit is well publicised or not (and umpteen changes down a stretch of the road is hardly well publicised) is not relevant, so your general insult about being stupid is inappropriate also.
Furthermore there are folk out there now so concerned about the ridiculous limits applied these days that they are permanently crawling along in case they missed a change, and feel so obliged to watch the speedometer they they are inevitably distracted from paying attention to other driving necessities and miss signs, lights, etc..
It is the madness of a controlling authority who fails to perform in the interests of society because they want what they want and the society they are supposed to be serving is clearly considered unimportant and just the means of having control.

You acknowledge that crimes have a built-in level of priority, but you cannot expect a policeman not to apprehend a speeding motorist on the basis that a more serious crime might be about to be committed?
If a more serious crime was being committed simultaneously, then another patrol would be dispatched to investigate.
That is how police prioritise, and always have done - what has changed that makes your observation any more pertinent than it has been previously?

I do not see that I am contradicting anything.
I can expect a policemen not to be looking deliberately to catch speeding motorists when there is work to be done preventing such things as gang warfare and catching participants of such an incident. I am unconvinced there is so much slack in the police force that they have time to do everything they need to minimise crime in society, such that they can spend time building up their success record with trivial road misdemeanours.
As you ask, I've not changed my view on this, but have become more annoyed at it ever since some authorities started putting up random 20mph limits everywhere; a totally ridiculous limit in most of the places where they are found. Plus I know of a number of people who have been caught and now are stressed out worrying about speed rather than being able to drive confidently and well any more; when they were fine drivers before they were caught doing slightly more than the arbitrary limit.
And of course the effect on others will be similar, because even if you have never been caught speeding then with them all out randomly with their cameras hoping for a catch, there is the chance you might be; because no one should be monitoring that one aspect at the exclusion of all the rest all the time. So good drivers will drift over all the time and it should not be an issue. It is a bad thing for society and police should concentrate their resources on the important things not look for ways to penalise decent citizens in order to make their record look good.
