If convicted under the rules of joint enterprise all will go down as murderers. While it's difficult to have any sympathy with them, those who engaged in horseplay and now find themselves facing murder charges must feel themselves hard done by.
Any thoughts?

I count myself fortunate in that, dave, ;o)

Does nobody want to address the possibility of a miscarriage of justice in this trial?
no sandy, little yobbos got their comeuppance perhaps they'll be better people when they get out.

TTT,
If you were innocence that would be some comeuppance, a life sentence.
I don't know why they bother trying people in court, ABers always know best one day into a six-week trial.

It would be interesting if the person who allegedly held the knife were to get off because of mental disorder, while the others who did not, but have no mental disorder, are convicted. Like a rerun of the Derek Bentley case, where the actual killer lived while his mate, who killed nobody, was hanged.
The trial is ongoing so no "miscarriage of justice" - yet.
Im not commenting on this trial in particular but a life sentence does not always mean a lifetime in gaol since a judge has to set a minimum period in gaol.
//Like a rerun of the Derek Bentley case, where the actual killer lived while his mate, who killed nobody, was hanged.//

Craig - the killer - was only 16 so couldn't be given the death sentence. Bentley was guilty & hanged due to "common cause". He shouted "Let him have it." to his chum who was pointing the gun at police.

Question Author
But what did he mean by calling out: 'Let him have it.'?
It could be read as him telling Craig to surrender the weapon.
There are 60 odd "whole life" murderers in prison currently. Otherwise a life sentence means release on licence after x number of years if the parole board agrees.
Bentley's conviction was quashed
by the Court of Appeal on 30th July 1998.

Indeed - but it was deemed otherwise at the trial.
"TTT,

The Court of Appeal clearly disagreed with the original verdict.

It's called appeasement. (to stop the campaigning)
//Does nobody want to address the possibility of a miscarriage of justice in this trial? //

It isn't over yet. There may not be a miscarriage of justice.
Savages, string up the one who did it.

I really dont get the mentality of the left on here. A man is dead for Gods sake and all you care about are the toe rags that did it.

Bizarre.
"Another defendant, 15, gave a knife to the boy who stabbed Mr Kirwan, the court heard." - bang to rights then, you'd think!
Question Author
For those two the future looks grim, I agree.
How about the others?
The others are for the Court to decide. We dont have the facts about them.
