whats the term for when a horse is skittish and raises up on its hind legs? is it bucking?
also, how would a rider overcome this?
there is an earthquake in my story and the riders horse is getting skittish. i need some advice to make things realistic.

A rider has to lean right forward and in an emergency would probably drop their arms around the horses neck in an effort to stay in the saddle.
They would poriobably be saying something like 'whoa lad' 'steady boy', or something similar.
