Im wanting to change my surname from "proctor" to "conlon".
Conlon is the family name from my mothers side and ive always felt that i belonged on that side of the family.

Im currently 16. How would i go about getting my name changed and will it cost me anything?

Some people think that if you want to change your name you have to do it by Deedpoll. This is a myth. You can change your name simply by usage, as long as it is not for fraudulant reasons.
But deedpoll makes it legal.
what are you trying to avoid
Unless you change your name by Deed Poll you would not be able to use the new name on your passport or bank account ie anywhere that you needed identification eg birth certificate to set up. BTW I believe that you would need parental consent to change your legal name at 16, otherwise you will have to wait until you are 18.
