I have just done this with one bank and am waiting for results for another. Let me see if I can find the original link I was sent - it was on this very site.
The banks are very obstructive in this area, the cases I have heard that have been successful have been after the claimant has filed a small claims case. Then they pay up and close your account!
Thans why I only wrote to banks with accounts that I didnt really use any more, and to credit cards that I no longer have but are still paying off the balances( ran up by my lovely ex!!) Just to see what they did.

This is an excellent guide, with links to letter templates, and a forum.

I have recently claimed 2095 back from Natwest, the full amount, without interest, using the letters posted on monneysavingexpert.com. the whole process took just over a month, I heard nothing from the bank until I wrote a letter stating i would be going to court. A few days later I recieved a letter and the money is now in my account, plus, they haven't closed my account either.
No comment - I just need the info in this post but I also need to go to bed. By answering I can find the post when I have more time.
