Speeding - going to court

I will try and do this as short as possible i accepted an NIP and on the way to work the morning i was going to post the payment, i got done again (36 in a 30, zero tollerance) and got a written NIP and told to take my licence to local police station.

So i took all the papers with me and I wasnt aware they actualy kept your licence, when i explained to the officer behind the desk and showed him the forms she said i would get in trouble for not handing in my licence, and i should sent the payment off with a letter explaining where my licence was, so next day posted payment with letter explaining.

about a week later on the saturday i got a letter back stating that it cant be processed without licence, and i needed to return payment with my licence (standard printed letter) also enclosed was a compliments slip from HMCS giving me a telephone no for the Met police and it said call thsi number and ask for a ticket extension (didnt know you could do that)

So I called them first thing on monday , they told me it had been passed to prosecution on the friday and it was now too late to do anything despite the letter i had received back from them.

This was 3 weeks ago today, I ve not heard anything else and I know from when i spoke to prosecution that the court date is next friday.

Here are the 2 questions i have,

is there a minimum period of notice to when you can be called to court?

I allready accepted the NIP and tried to pay it, it was the circumstances which prevented me , i never wanted to go to court, and now reading up it sounds like im in for a worse fine and higher points? do you think this will be the case even in this circumstance ?

There is no minimum period of notice.

When you go to court explain that you could not take the FPN because your licence was already with the Police - you should get a �60 fine 3 points and no costs in the circumstances
