My exhusband stopped paying child support for our son when our son graduated in June 2007.He. thinks that because he gradduated that he doesnt have to pay! Our son is now 20. In NYS the law is that an absent parent is to pay support until the child is the age of 21 or married before the age of 21. Our son has a son of his own now and my ex thinks that he does not have to pay child even more now because he feels that our son is considered emancipated. According to other people that I have talked to, this is NOT true. My son still lives with me and has visitation for his son. Any comments on this?

If this is the same in the USA, isn't this more about you wanting money as opposed to it going to your son? Either way, your son has chosen to become a parent himself and should now be standing on his own two feet and not expecting parents to regularly supplement his income. Presumably, as he's graduated, he's had a decent level of education and is in a position to work for his money?
