Can you be a little more specific juleez? There are too many permutations to comment. Did your mother leave a will, what did it say etc
Simple guide.

Your mother remarries - stepdad now next of kin.

Mother dies - property goes to next of kin - stepdad.

Stepdad remarries - new wife is now his next of kin.

Stepdad dies - property goes to next of kin = new wife.

Unless a will is involved - either way, you can bet on this ending in court.
Its not quite that simple Whickerman. It depends on value of estate for intestacy rules and also whether there was a will and if there was whether it was a mutual (very unusual now) will. I think Juleez needs to give us a little more information.
I know barmaid, It also depends on the age of the children and dependency replationships etc, but i just wanted to give a very simple guide.
Sorry Whickerman.

But, generally speaking, age and dependency will not per se change the circumstances of the inheritance, although those may give rise to a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
