how does he get his money back

hi I asked this question in chatterbank but was advised to post it in law

my son sent some stuff back to one of the big DIY stores, and they are going to give him his money back. the thing is they want to pay it back into his account but as they will only deal with him and he is in NZ. He has closed this account for now and so there would be no account for them to pay money back into. It is quite a large sum of money as well.

do you think if he wrote a letter asking for a cheque explaining all this it would be acceptable, or is there another way round it.

afcjan, I doubt the DIY store will be interested in the fact that he no longer has the account for the money to be paid into. I would suggest he takes a credit note if possible.
