i am thinking of changing my name so that i could better my chances of finding work if i change my name and say that the new name was my name since i was born do i stand a chance of securing a job i have a criminal record but no pending criminal convictions

If you apply for a job that requires a CRB check then no as you have to disclose any previous names. You also wouldn't show up as registered at the addresses you gave, well you would but not under your new name so they would probably guess what you had done.

If it was that easy, every criminal would do it.
