If it's only a sea cadet corps rule that you can't be friends with instructors on facebook, and not the law, what's the most they can do to stop you?

And does it make any difference if me and the instructor (female) are only 2 years different age wise, and in the same form group and maths class in sixth form?

PLUS we've known each other since before either of us were part of the corps. . . .

or are you just going to say; rules are rules, live with it!?

I'm not that nosey to ask, but she did seem different to me in those few weeks, including having a panick attack over nothing once when I was with her.
Yes which is why it sounds a ridiculous rule. It's not the SAS
A merlot would be my first choice thanks red.

I sent that particular message just then through the pc.

But then it's hard to have one rule for certain people and another for others and then there's the murky area in the middle then a cadet becomes friends with an instructor who hasn't been found to be a pervert and it ends in disaster . . .
Presumably there are other cadet rules you have to follow (and I would have thought this one was introduced to protect vulernable youngsters).
Pervert? - where did that come from? Ye Gods, helen, any of that merlot left?
Molly - amazing, you've managed to do the 'no, but yeah, but' thing again.

Boxtops that's what it's mainly about, so you don't start getting too attatched to an isntructor who ends up grooming you and who hasn't been caught by the police for being a perv.

If you had said that in the first place, molls, there would have been more reason for us to understand why instructors can't be Friends with cadets. If it's child protection then I am all for it.
what ?
Question Author
I didn't think the reason behind the rule would make any difference to this though . . .
molly, me thinks you are now taking the p.
Absolutely it does, molly. If it's just arbitrary - "if you get made an instructor you have to delete your past friends off FB" - that would be unreasonable. If for reasons of child protection, instructors have to be careful whose profiles they access on FB, especially of people younger than themselves, that is perfectly sensible child protection rules within the sea cadets organisation.

A rule's a rule and i was asking what they could do about us not asking why they have the rule.
OK - short answer - the instructor could be in trouble if they were caught still contacting you on FB. IMO.
If you want to stay a cadet and she wants to be an instructor hassle free then is it really the end of the world if you aren't facebook friends, especially if it's for the greater good.

If you are that good friends, I'm sure you can warrant paying for the odd text or just e.mail each other from a computer. You're on here so much it doesn't seem like you're away from one for that long.

We all managed to survive keeping in touch with people before the internet and mobiles :)
I tend to agree! If an instructor was a 'perv' who wanted to groom cadets then not being a FB friend wouldn't stop them.
You have just made me laugh out loud molly.
you will be demoted and wont be able to take part in the parade with your gun, wheather you have sweaty hands or not.
