Do you think the outcome of the sueing by those two gay men against the christian hotel owners would have been the same if the hotel owners were of a different religion (that's equally against homosexuality) such as Islam?

I've just thought through your post some more ...

are you suggesting that the next time a stag or hen party are refused admission to a hotel they should sue for sexual orientation discrimination?

Even if they are all heterosexual?

Your post doesn't seem to make any sense. If it does and you can explain it then fair enough.

Of course it is.

The couple in question, however, qualified that stance by saying (in effect) "........you can't stay here because you are friends of Dorothy."

If they are too stupid to hide the real reasons then I have doubly no sympathy for them !
That is because there is a specific law about discrimination on the grounds of sexuality, doc...........

Nothing to get all hettie up about............

<<Chap turns up at the hotel saying he is of a particular religion where he must behead a live chicken at 3 am and smear blood on his forehead.>>

No problem here
You have answered your own question Doc perhaps without realising it

<he must behead a live chicken at 3 am> good reason to deny admittance; potential cruelty, animals not allowed in rooms anyway, noise, mess etc

<smear blood on his forehead> probably ditto unless he can show it will not be messy or a health risk to other guests or staff

<of a particular religion> illegal to deny admittance (ditto gay, old, particular race etc) on those grounds alone

Easy really.

FAO Doc. Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, was the original gay icon. Before the decriminalisation of homosexuality, discreet people of that persuasion would ask, "Is he a friend of Dorothy?" in order to discover his sexuality.
Just been listening to a song by John Grant which got me thinking about this debate - feel free to youtube it, the title will become apparent when you see a list! It's not meant literally either!
It would have been the same outcome whatever the religion. What religion you are doesn't come into it. It was the fact that the law was broken by two bigotted people.

If you treat people differently because *you* are uncomfortable with whom they share their lives/duvets...........that's pretty much the definition, doc.
Whatever happened to, "There's no sentiment in business?"
