Aldred family in Lancashire
I'm helping a mate trace his family tree but have hit a brick wall. Ernest Aldred was born in 1873 in Fleetwood, Lancs. He married Mary Elizabeth Hopkinson. It is Ernest's dad where I have a problem. His father was Henry Aldred who died in 1874. I've found Henry on the 1871 Census where it states he was born in 1841 in Deane(?) Lancs and is a book seller/stationer. He is married to Elizabeth born in 1838 in Whitehaven. However, there the trail ends. I've found a Henry and Elizabeth on the 1861 where it states both were born in Little Hulton and Henry is a railway porter but I am not sure it is the same people. I can't find a birth for Henry or a marriage.
Any help from eagle eyed AB genealogists is, as always, appreciated. TIA

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Aldred is a very very common surname in the Peel district of Little Hulton and the huge Railway industry employed dozens of Alfreds, however, I've just searched all the parish and chapel registers for Peel/Little Hulton and not found a relevant Henry, so the one you found may be a red herring. but also you can search Fleetwood on that same site so give that a go. Whitehaven was Cumbrland and so try the IGI on familysearch.org.

Ebenezer senior was born on the Isle of Man, which is of course just a few short miles over the sea from Whitehaven, when I visit my friend in Seascale you can see the Isle through her binoculars really clearly. he was working in the ropemaking trade, which was part of the whitehaven fishing industry no doubt.

senior was a fish monger in 1851 up in Whitehaven, the town was a huge fishing port, his wife Georgiana is from Scotland btw, he was from santon isle of man b 1810 son of ebenezer cox and elizabeth curliny .
Elizabeth who married Henry Aldred was baptised non conformist Independant methodist in whitehaven 29 Dec 1836 and born 6 dec 1836. Ebenezer married Georgiana Douglas at St Bees 23 Dec 1835. St Bees is just up the coast from Seascale and it is where Jonathan Swift got the idea for Lilliput.
