A week a American tv will convince everyone of the value of unhampered programming. Commercial channels here have to produce good stuff to keep up, and strike a balance between advertisers fees and keeping your attention. A US station will break about every 6 minutes, and always between the titles and the programme itself !!
There are community channels, with more "educational" stuff. Basically anything WE made that they can afford, such as Antiques Roadshow, schools programming. They spend around half the programming time begging for subs. It's bloo4y awful.
Well, actually I would say its a great idea. I dont watch much of the rubbish on the BBC these days, and I resent them taking such a big chunk of money from me every year, then deciding for me what I will watch. I am paying them the money even when the set is off, or I am watching another channel. When the ads come on we just hit the mute button, or go and make a cup of tea!
I do take the point though that the news in the middle of a film is a barmy idea, and really spoils the film.
I'd vote to ban the fee. I don't really mind adverts - gives me a chance to go for a pee or drink or snack etc. I don't like the fact that people get charged so much for a licence when they may not even watch tv much.
The trouble is, it may turn out like American tv channels where there are too many breaks!
