I admit, I cried. Lots. What a sob fest. Poor Lady Sybil. But what next? I think a custody battle over the yet unnamed baby girl.......

It was awful I thought her throat was going to explode!
I blubbed as well................
I missed the middle so am recording the whole again. What I saw made me tearful but Maggie Smith! What an actress!!!!
Question Author
Maggie Smith has me in stitches. She also made me cry though.
I have just some research on Wiki. Eclampsia is still a big problem these days but a century ago it will have been devastating. This episode must have touched a raw nerve in many homes this evening.

And she was my favourite daughter as well !
So unexpected, too.

How many more episodes do we have in this current series?
So obvious what was coming... I still sobbed though!
Surely BM the father will have custody. Thinking about the gentry, maybe not. Even back in the 60's and 70's the titled male always got custody. Diana, Fergie.
what happened please?
Matthew is going to take over the estate isn't he................let's face it Lord Downton is rubbish.
I can't understand why the London consultant was so against a Caesarean section for Sybil. After all, our Queen was born this way in 1926 so it was not uncommon in the early 1920s.
Question Author
Well Matthew has put his inheritance in from Lavinia's father, so I imagine he will take over

***SPOILER**** do not read further if you haven't watched it, but this is for Bednobs.

Lady Sybil went into labour there was a dispute between the local GP and the posh surgeon they called in. the local gp said she had eclampsia and needed emergency treatment, the posh surgeon over-ruled that as did Lord Grantham. She gave birth to a baby girl and then suffered convulsions and died. Lady G blames Lord G.
oh! Thanks BM
Question Author
I think the father will not have custody Jeza. In those days, it was easier for "the family" to take control of a child. There was no Family Law Act then like there is now. Plus Lord G will have expensive lawyers and Tom won't have anything.
That is what I implied BM.
Question Author
Hmmmm, I wonder if that is where we are going next.

Still you gotta love Maggie Smith "Ask the chauffeur", when it is questioned what to do with Lady Sybil.
Forced myself to continue watching having recognised the symptoms.
My daughter had pre-eclampsia and an emergency caesarian at 32 weeks.
Mother and 4lb baby girl both survived. Baby is now as stunning, healthy and intelligent 14 year old. Mother's next pregnancy was trouble free, a boy born without invention although a fortnight late!
Thank God for the NHS.
Perhaps Lady Mary and hubby will adopt the baby?
My thoughts exactly missprim.
Usually takes a lot to make me cry in a film or drama but my mascara is all down my face! Just love the Dowager (Maggie Smith) why won't she stay to be in the next series? she is the best actress by far, I bet she dies in the last episode :( Hankies out again!
