"Her ladyship's bar of soap".
O'Brien caused Lady Grantham to slip on a bar of soap losing the child she was carrying.
Thomas told Bates that the mere mention of it would bring O'Brien 'onside'. It persuaded her to stop the footman reporting Thomas's behaviour to the Police.
You do all realise that last night was the last episode and, apart from a Christmas Special, there are to be no more .......... no follow on series anyway. It is rumoured that Julian Fellowes has written a pre-quel to explain how The Earl met Cora etc ................................. but I agree it does seem to have been left "open" for a future series .... but considering it is now nearing the time when the upstairs downstairs regime was nearing the end of it's days I wonder how much longer it could continue....?
That's weird echo 'cos I've seen it somewhere that confirms Maggie Smith will be in the next series, and that the new great-niece will figure more prominently.
It could carry on until WW2 easily as my own great grandparents (the Cheshire ones on my dad's side) had servants up until at least then including gamekeepers. so julian fellowes needs to be telt
It is not the finale series. Last night was the finale of Series 3. Series 4 is already being planned. I have read somewhere too that Matthew will not be appearing in the next series.
However, while Fellowes is hoping to reach new heights with a fourth series of Downton, he was quick to admit that a further sesason of the show has yet to be officially commissioned.
He said: 'I would hope there will be more because of the response to this series, but you know ITV are always pretty close to their chest in terms of an actual commission.
'But I think I’d be surprised if there was not a fourth series.'
