yeah, ayg, but if you left your tiara outside the door with the shoes, it'd be reset and polished in the morning

great story, Fred, the service levels can be exceptional in these places.
My wife and I got stranded in Washington DC in transit back to Europe one December....long story but we ended up at the Tyson Corner Ritz Carlton - in a junior suite cheaper than staying in a Dulles Airport hotel normal room....our baby was 4 months. Not only did they get all the room service etc sorted out, but one of their managers went to buy us baby necessities at 6am, as we had been banking on being back home the following morning, and he even had the presence of mind to bring warmed up milk and coffees with croissant (on the hotel) with him when he delivered it to our room at 7am.
It was truly beyond the call of duty.....

I hate all the fuss and glitz, show me the room and bugger off, if I want you you will know about it. I hate waiters that keep coming around asking if my meal is ok, sod off and leave me alone, if im not happy with my meal you will know about it and I do not need escorting out the door thanks, I know the way!!!!
I know......I used to stay in DC for $130 a night while others in the Co even on our corporate rate were in the lesser brand hotel for $200. That night with Dulles blocked, we got the Ritz for $120 and I overheard someone being charged $195 (USAir) for a bog-awful Hilton room at the airport - the hotel so overcrowded that they couldn't do us room service for 4 hours despite the wee one. That was when we decided to move on and when I called United about it, they said "Stay in what hotel you like, and we'll pick up the tab" - we were flying in business class mind you.
Also, "if you don't ask, you don't get" and it's why I always call the hotels direct and not use these on-line booking facilities - the strike rate on upgrades for the same rate is pretty high.....
