Typical Americans. The slightest hint of a humanitarian crisis and they can't wait to get stuck in and 'save some ass'. Who elected them the world's 'ambulance service?' Did we get a vote?

What a surprise, willing lapdog, the UK is only to glad to wag it's tail along with the other western cronies.

Let's face it, this is about oil. the only reason they are sending planes, aircraft carriers and troops is to prop up their arms industry. Did they think we would be fooled into not seeing the significance of the phillipines strategic proximity to china?

What about an exit strategy? has anyone given that any thought? At this rate we could be re-building infrastructure, schools and hospitals for years to come, all at the expense of western taxpayers.

When are we in the west going to start listening to the likes of george galloway and stop meddling in the internal affairs of other countries?
When are we going to stop getting involved? Bloody Americans and their western allies!

So are you suggesting that we do nothing to help these people?
I somehow don't think the people of the Philipines will agree with you on this Doc
Agree with George Galloway????
I'm not interested in the politics involved in this. I am a member of the human race therefore I will do everything in my power to help these people.
What an extraordinary rant doctorb ! I have rarely read such a lot of ill-thought nonsense. This is a humanitarian crisis on a grand scale...nations all over the world are sending various kinds of help, just like they always do, when the tsunamis and earthquakes strike. Its got nothing to do with oil.

Your use of George Galloway is breathtaking in its ignorance. Lets remind ourselves of his previous record shall we ::::

You are entitled to your view but when you post silly, foolish rants like this, you must expect to get castigated.

So it's true, satire is dead.

mikey, they have sent an aircraft carrier and two cruisers, so it's not an unreasonable question. But I presume the ships were hanging round that part of the world anyway and readier to provide quick aid.

Why they were there in the first place, though... I suspect doctorb is right. Manila is a useful ally.
I disagree with everything you've said there doc, I'm glad that we're helping a country that has been devastated.
Aw, you were taking the pee.
Obviously too subtle for some doctorb.

'save some ass' was a bit of a giveaway rocky.
oil exports may well have been damaged if coconut trees have been destroyed so the US is right to protect its interests
sorry did I miss something? are you saying UK/US should not be sending aid?
jno...the Philippines have been an ally of America, since they drove the japs out in WW2. They had a huge naval base at Subic Bay until quite recently. So it can't come a surprise that the US had a couple of ships nearby. Perhaps Britain can send/is sending similar help to these poor stricken people as well ?

From what I can see, this disaster is worse than the tsunami in 2004, in that whole islands and the mainland have been completely destroyed, not just the coastal areas.

mikey, if we cease building aircraft carriers as some suggest, how will we get aid to people? Maybe lilttle ships, like at Dunkirk.
If this post IS a pee-take, or some kind of joke, it is in remarkably poor taste. What would be the point ?
