Running programs

I've recently downloaded both Google Earth and Limewire from their respective official sites. Both downloads have been successful. But when I then try to run the programs, they both freeze up and I have to reboot.

I've got plenty of available memory. I've also tried downloading them and running them on other computers, and there have been no problems.

Any ideas as to what on my system is stopping me run these programs?

I use limewire and AOL and often the PC hangs up - I am sure its conflict twixt a buggy type thingy and my protection - Zonealarm - PC only hangs when Limewire is connected - a mate uses limewire 9.11.1 and got a trojan virus - my 4.8.1 seems reasonably clear
