decmangan, sorry did I not answer your question?

She is a television presenter who is paid by the programme makers - is that clearer?
Not at all. After my mother died (96) I moved out of the house 3 yrs later. Licence was paid for till then. They sent me forms for rebate but didn't bother. Just haven't got one now.
Sorry mamy I was composing.
A film score?
My mum was up cycling 50 years ago...using old wood to make a new storage unit, and hand painting an old table.
Sorry for that intrusion Zacs speaking to decmanagan,it is just that my late aunt who did not have a TV was always receiving letters about not having a TV licence at that address, and had a hard job convincing them of the fact.Apologies again.
No thoughts! (4490 miles away)
Funny you should mention that pastafreak,I too have been "upcycling" most of my life sometimes through necessity and sometimes because I just wanted to,it is not new,it used to be called make do and mend and do not dispose of something which could still be useful,it certainly beats this throw away society we now live in,filling up landfill sites etc.
When we first married, I made a set of shelves from some old speakers.
Oh yes and spending hours unpicking old sweaters to knit up into something fresh.
Yes indeed mamy I don't think many people bother doing that anymore!
..and repainting old chests of drawers - I've still got 'em. It's an invigorating programme for people who don't want to go to IKEA and who haven't got any money. My friends and I regularly swap pieces of unwanted furniture.

It's people just moving *** around, painting things lurid colours and calling it design. Kirsty "look, I've made you a lampshade" erm, no you haven't you've just welded (or more likely got someone to weld) some rebar rods together IN THE SHAPE OF A LAMPSHADE. Holy moly.
The part I don't like about this and other similar programmes is they never just "find" this perfect item which will look great with a lick of paint. They will have had a team of researchers scouring the junk shops first. I know they have to make the programme look interesting but let's get real. If you or I went looking for the whole weekend we would probably come back with jack ***.
Seems a few people on here will disagree with you zacs...;-)
