So many great films I'm rooting for and some I'll see in the next couple of weeks.

I hate it, and all the OTT false speeches, hugs & kisses that go with it.

Some many nominations for so many different film parts, but left the caterers off the list, anyway most movies that gets loads of Oscars, are usually crap IMO.

Thanks for that trt! Care to name a few that fit into the category you've suggested?
The King’s Speech (2011) worst one

Dances With Wolves (1990)
The Last Emperor (1987)
Chicago (2002)
Titanic (1997)
Birdman (2015)
Question Author
Can't comment on Chicago and Birdman was contentious but the others thoroughly deserving IMHO.

As for this year, from what I've seen so far(seeing Hacksaw Ridge on Thursday) I'll stick my neck out and say Afleck for Best Male Lead, La La Land for Best Film and Stone to get Best Female Lead. Fingers crossed for Dev Patel for Best Male Support in Lion though the smart money seems to be on Jeff Bridges.

I'm in the fortunate position to be able to say I've seen all the Best Picture nominees this year.

It's a very very strong field, but I think it's going to be a La La Landslide (the headline writes itself) - except for the acting categories. My money is on Affleck for 'Manchester By The Sea' and Portman for 'Jackie'.

Big shock at Amy Adams missing out for 'Arrival'. I thought she'd be a shoo-in.

Special Effects has to go to 'The Jungle Book'. The visuals in that were jaw-dropping.

A good looking set of noms this year.
Anybody know who is comparing, presenting the event?
Went to see a small budget film recently called 16 years till Summer. Followed a prisoner from one of my local open prisons over 5 years. Stunning and thought provoking but it will never be nominated for an oscar.

sp,
I agree, I think La La Land will win most of the 'peripheral' ones and whilst it'll be a shame not to(probably) see Gosling win, but I've yet to see a better portrayal of a broken man devoid of emotion than Affleck's.
I wasn't overly surprised at Adams exclusion as I was disappointed with Arrival.
Whilst I doubt it'll win many I would like to see Lion get best film, but that's a long shot.
Looking forward to Hacksaw Ridge, T2 Trainspotting, Hidden Figures, Jackie, Viceroy's House, Fences, Guardians 2 but most of all Dunkirk, though that's 6 months away.
It's going to be a great year for film.
Thanks Mamya,
I may be shallow but I like the dresses - some are very pretty and some are hideous. I prefer the latter - brings out my inner Bitchiness.
Bad girl, know what you mean though.

Yeah, quite a few would look great on my bedroom floor.....!
There will be complaints about not being enough nominations from ethnic minorities of course because now skin colour is more important than talent.
