Tv Re-Runs.

I was watching a re-run of "family fortunes" from what must have been the 1980s.
Some of the contestants must have been 60+ years old and some must surely have died by now, and if a relation was watching the show it would probably come as a shock to see a their dead relative laughing, joking and in good health.
Does the TV station have any obligation to inform the living members of the family that their late aunt Bessie is going to be on an future show ?.

A contract when you appear on the show most likely accepts that the content becomes the property of the production company - similar to what we type on here belongs to AB.

No....they would have signed something. Plus how are the tv channels going to know where people live.

I've often wondered that. I suppose if a family member was on tv the family would have recorded it - I'm on video from the 1980s when I was in a quiz show. I can't remember signing anything about future showings of the programme, but could have done I suppose.
Similarly when street scenes are filmed, does everyone who appears in those scenes have to give permission?

The law allows the general public to be filmed on the streets, as long as they are not being filmed doing anything illegal.

If you watch the police reality shows, there is always an arrested numpty screaming about getting the camera out of his face, and the police always confirm that the cameraman is acting within the law.

No - Aunty Betty will have had it written in her contract to appear that she has waived all copyright pertaining to her appearance, and the audience members will have that in the small print on their tickets.

When you appear on TV, you generally have to sign a release form which lets the production company do what they see fit with the programme.
A music show I performed in in the past has just been uploaded to YouTube - nothing I can do about it, and it could be shown on mainstream TV without my permission. Likewise my appearances on a TV quiz show.

Indeed - I'm on the Christmas Special of Trigger Happy TV, but signed a release form, so no repeat fees from video sales.

Never mind, the honour, and saying hello to Dom Joly, was quite sufficient, and I had a riotous day out!

Myself and a load of colleagues adored Trigger Happy TV, and I remember when the photocopier rep was repairing our copier and his Nokia phone rang with 'that' ringtone, and about five people yelled "HELLO!!!!" at the same time.

You would have tutted I am sure, we laughed like we were fit to burst!
