I will probably be making enemies on AB BUT I must voice my opinion. Once again the time has come to object to the BBC devoting BBC 1 to the worship of FOOTBALL. Why can there not be a special sport programme to show the 'religion' so that we can have the ability to watch our normal programmes ?.

We're able to record any programmes thatw e want that clash with the football, so i last night I watched teh football then caught up on Corrie. Okay that's ITV.
I know people miss the One Show but programmes like that probably need a break anyway.
I'm happy with the football. It's only a few weeks every couple of years.
I don't really watch Wimbledon but can work around that. (It does annoy me when they keep asking you to swich channels though .)
I only have 5 channels.
Those who want to watch football probably would watch it if it were on BBC4 provided they could accesss it (eg ummmmm can't) and provided they don't get overruled by someone else in the house whow ants to watch Emmerdale, Say yes to the dress, Holby City, etc (apologies prudie for the Latinism). Maybe though teh BBC wants to attract viewers who are not diehard fans but will look in thereby counting towards the important rating figures. Many viewers are creatures of habit leaving on one channel and watching/half watching whatever comes on. Others like me are quite proficient at watching 2 channels at once using the remote control if I can get my hands on it
Ron.

Once every 4 years........and that's the football.
Every bloody night of the week.....and that's the Soaps.
C'mon..........!!!
I do have a smart TV so can watch the BBC channels on that. I don't mind the football though. I live with 3 men so I'm used to it.
Like it or not The football world cup is the biggest sporting event on the planet unless of course your American and disillusioned into believing its the 'world series.' I for one appreciate the fact that I don't have fork out a mint to want it on Sky or BT sport.

I don't feel the need to complain about other sports being shown, each to their own. When it comes to Wimbledon for eg not being the worlds greatest fan of the sport but do watch the later stages.
> and the most complained about coming in at 86000 complaints
> was the interruption of Antiques Roadshow to show Nelson mandela being released

The antiques are fierce complainers at most times, and especially when it comes to their roadshow ...
agree sqad totally ....soaps yuk!!
I agree with you ron. It's not just the game itself, but it's discussed in great detail both before and after the match and then highlights are shown later on ! This happens at other times too, not just the world cup every four years, schedules are constantly changed for football anyway. And the most ridiculous thing of all, the final of the WC will be shown on BOTH major channels - why, it's exactly the same match?! Oh and you can bet your life England won't be in it !
I haven't watched a single game since the World Cup started and don't intend to either. I've got a variety of box sets on the go on Sky, Amazon Prime and Netflix.

As long as the footie doesn't interfere with The Handmaids Tale, The Bridge and Westworld, I'm happy :o)
