Up to date I have only had white butterflies in my garden. However, when I came home today I spotted four peacock butterflies on my newly blooming buddleia. It's in a pot and rather late in flowering this year. I'm easily pleased!

I've got loads of small and large whites in the garden and the allotment. Only a sprinkling of commas, small tortoise shell, peacocks, gate keepers and speckled wood.
The beast from the east could have something to do with the shortage of many species.
BTW, butterfly populations could crash next year, due to the ongoing drought, as they did in 1977.
Four Peacocks should please anybody Maggie.
They are magnificent. Lucky you.
Well done Maaggiebee!

I've been dead-heading my Buddleia to keep it flowering for longer, for the later butterflies. saw a nice red admiral on it yesterday.
I saw what I think was a red admiral today (Northern Ireland) after seeing nothing but whites all summer.
I have had way less butterflies on my buddleias this year than usual. I've seen a quite a few whites, a fair few Red Admirals, a Comma or two but no Tortoiseshells, Peacocks or Painted Ladies at all which I usually get.
