i've seen this hailed as the comedy of the moment. tv reviewers are going mad for it.

the trailers made it look like a cheaply made, poor man's 'the day today' and after watching it last night for 10 minutes (that's all i could stand), that's exactly what it appeared to be.

am i missing something? or is it really as bad as i thought it was?

I'm with you - it's just a re-hash of The Day Today, but without the humour, plus added random cutting about as far as I can see.
that's the point of it random cutting, its about the absurdity of tv and cable news..where so much is said to dress up the fact that very little is going on to justify 24 hour rolling news... yes it was done better by the day today, but it is not that bad, i love the film critic sketches, and the phoney banter between the presenters to cover up the fact they loathe each other..it rips apart the pretencious and self righteous crap that punctuates so much of these sort of channels. the falseness of the chatter between presenters and weathermen, the endless lingering camera shots that try to give you a feeling that somethings about to happen but nothing ever does..sky news is a expert at that..
Some of the funniest parts were on the news tickers. I was busy watching that more than listening. Business news. Anyone for shares in 'war on terror'. Think I saw WMD's on it too. Keep an eye on those next time.
I quite enjoyed it
It is quite the worst television I have seen for a long time. TV reviewers haven't seen it as far as I can tell. Reading into it to try and justify it's place, suggesting it's intelligent is giving it far too much credit. I remember something years ago called "Haywire" on BBC2 which tried something like this and it was terrible back then. The Day Today was genuinely innovative, with its performers breaking new ground also. This contains some of the worst comedy acting ever - with the clown doing the fashion report the worst offender in my eyes. Terrible - steer well clear.
