Last Night Of The Proms - A Night Of Bisexual Pride And Diversity

In the second half, mezzo Jamie Barton, a self-professed “queer girl with a nose ring”, wore a gown in the colours of the bisexual Pride flag and waved a rainbow flag for Rule Britannia! The Proms is clearly in the vanguard for inclusivity, although the fact that Kidane stood out as one of the only BAME members of the audience suggests there is still a long way to go.//

For me, this has always been a wonderful night of tradition celebrating our country and its people – all of them – but this year it was about ‘diversity’ – and … cough…. ‘woke’*. How disappointing to see the soloist waving a Rainbow flag to Rule Britannia. Does she not realise that the Union flag represents us all - or is it simply that she feels her foibles take precedence over everything else, tradition included? Whoever gave the go-ahead for this hi-jacking should get his/her brains tested but sadly brain-testing at the BBC doesn't seem to happen any more. The BBC just can’t seem help itself of late. I feel the off switch approaching in future.

*’Woke’? No, me neither - so I looked it up. It means ‘alert to injustice in society, especially racism.’ Now we know. :o/

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Jamie Barton and have to admit I did not notice the “pride flag”. Nothing wrong with the music of black and female composers. I always thought the Proms was to bring all types of music from opera to Broadway to as wide an audience as possible. This includes new works by modern composers. This ethos will bring diversity to the concerts. Maybe someone should have had a quiet word about the flag but does it really matter and did it spoil the evening?

It does seem to be that the event was commandeered for someone's hobby horse. Not really on but these are the times we live in. Attempted social thought control by those willing to push their view and in a position to do so.

Still I'm sure the music was very nice.

Yes, it matters ... and yes, it did spoil the evening ... for me at least. Yes, the Proms should, and does celebrate, a wide range of music, but it shouldn't celebrate any one section of the community in particular. Unfortunately, this year the Last Night did just that.

I feel that maybe this whole exercise should have been kept for one of the other prom nights, and the Last Night should reflect tradition.

As I said on another thread. They've often had gay singers/composers/conductors at the proms. No-one cared.

The whole organisation has finally get to the stage where it is perceived, by the rational of though, to be beyond parody. Indeed what was once considered "alternative comedy" but in fact was just a bit of parody garnished with stupidity has become the template for all of their output particularly the laughingly titled "News". From the hysterical climate doomsday hoax predictions, to the woke representation that the majority of us are as confused as they are about ourselves, to the blatantly biased pro EUSSR propaganda and Marxist psychobabble that was past its sell by date before 6th form was over for most of us. Time to put this gathering of like minded crackpots to sleep. Of to the clinic of reality for them and instead of injections of our cash a dose of strong laxative at the very least. They are after all full of it.

I watched the proms. Didn't care much for Jamie Barton singing Rule Britannia etc. I always think it sounds better with a male vocalist. I don't know if anyone noticed the "Promenaders"? They all seemed to be from the old folks home. Was it a senior citizen promenader special?
