Looking back, and allowing for the fact that what was served, and enjoyed, as entertainment, was very different years ago, how many of you really thought the following were actually any good at all -

Mike And Bernie Winters
The Goodies
Mike Yarwood
On The Buses
Stanley Baxter

I can honestly say that collectively and individually, I have never so much as raised a smile at any of them, ever.

Any thoughts?

I liked Mike Yarwood.
Didn't care for any of them but they were in a different time as TV goes

The Goodies were sort of ok!
From the great Victor Borge:

"I've experienced two of the worst winters in living memory: Mike and Bernie."
at the time they were on there was little choice we just watched what was on and some of it was amusing but you're right moistly awful. I watched an on the buses film the other day and really it was a trial to get through it but when I was nine on a wet Sunday afternoon it was something to watch. I would add monty python to your list. Of course there are the classic sketches but watch an episode at random and it's 90% boring.
I disagree about Stanley Baxter, I thought he was very clever and very funny. He is still alive, living in Cyprus.
yes I agree. I didn't like Benny Hill either.
Can anyone remember The Grove Family, I guess a forerunner of the soaps ?
The Goodies were good. Graham Gardener and Tim Brooke Taylor are good writers. Bill Oddie was just a tit.
Jack we were invited to his villa for drinks, he lives in a small village called Tala
The Grove Family then the Appleyards. Also the Glums (radio).
Loved on the buses. Poor Olive!!
Did she later appear in EE and Birds of a Feather Sharon?
The Goodies used to make me cry with laughter, the others were enjoyed by my parents but not me.
The Goodies were quite good. Somebody literally died laughing watching them ...

Not credited in Birds of a Feather but she was Aunt Sal in EE.
Liked Stanley Baxter
Anyone remember "The Newcomers" about the same time as "The Grove Family"?
Arh right, thanks Jack
I loved Love Thy Neighbour but no wonder they don't show it on Gold now :0)))
I suppose if the opinion is formed by watching any of the listed once or twice one could be accused of not giving it a chance, given the length of careers.

If the opinion is formed after watching a great deal of any or all of the performers it might suggest wishful thinking or a dogged determination to remain unhappy.

In any event loads of dosh was made so many somebodies paid to see them suggesting a different view more widely.
