I am the first to understand that comedy is subjective - I have a member of my family whom I love dearly, notwithstanding that she thinks Michael McIntyre is funny ...

But I watched about twenty minutes of Eddie izzard on tv tonight, and I simply don't get it

I couldn't raise a smile if my life depended on it, so what am I missing?

well Andy, I think the fact you like Chubby Brown and Bernard Manning is a good indicator, you are never going to find modern comedians funny because they don't tell jokes, they just relate everyday life. //

I understand that, which is why I also adore Peter Kay, Victoria Wood, Ben Elton, Billy Connolly, and Jimmy Carr - so I am not rooted in the 1970's which my answer may have inferred.

Thank you - exactly the same result.
TTT.....Mrs sqad. found it hilarious, I found it OK.
sqad, snow or the Scots?
both were hilarious.
I find him interesting to listen to, but have never watched any of his stand ups. Maybe I should?
Michael McIntyre makes me laugh, he is so observant of people and life. Same with Peter Kay.
Eddie Izzard is quite surreal i found, his style is like no other...
ok Andy last attempt, TBH I quite like MM but not his Big Show. All that unexpected star, text all she ite. I just watch the bit of stand up at the start. .... and the Wheel is dreadful, watched it once!

Patsy - // Michael McIntyre makes me laugh, he is so observant of people and life. Same with Peter Kay. //

I can see the similarities but I find two things - one is the Peter Kay is far more accurate and amusing with his insights, and the way he delivers them, and I adore his Lancashire accent, I could listen to him read the phone book. I also love the facial expressions, but the exact opposite happens with MM - I hate his flutey voice and his chubby school-boy face.
Eddie Izzard was OK before he became an icon for the far left, and brought that to the fore in his comedy!
Izzard? the guy who goes to his investiture at the Palace in lipstick and a skirt? ..about as funny as a fireman at a crematorium.
....ooo sounds a bit soft southerner ist to me!

I listen and I think "Yeah ... so ... and ...".
I know why you didn't like the snow one Andy, you don't have snow up north do you? You have something called snore! :)
Thanks for those YouTube clips TTT. I know I shall enjoy them. I like light hearted comedy. I hate comedy that relies on bad language or people tell me is funny when I don't get it at all. I find Miranda Hart totally unfunny, but extremely annoying.
Andy, Peter Kay is in a class of his own. First class! I was only pointing out their observation of people, as you understand.
I love his accent too. I think this definitely helps with being funny.
could never get on with Peter Kay, don't find his humour to my taste.
The problem with Peter Kay is he repeats everything 65 times.

They have snore in Lancashire, but I'm not as far north as that - Manchester is nearly forty miles north of here, so slightly inaccurate on that one!!

I didn't like the snow one because for some reason, I know that if Peter Kay had done the same routine word for word, I would have been fighting for breath.

It's less McIntyre's material than him as a personality.

I think I may meet him one day, and I will really like him as a person, but still not find him funny.

I always wonder if I will like Dean Friedman as a person, because I think Lucky Star is the most treacly, insipid, vapid, utterly creepy song I have ever heard!!!
