The theme is old enough - you will have to tell me if the draymer is worth it
"Care in the community" is lack of care in the community
I am NOT the first to notice that
I mentioned to a psych that it was Esquirel who first noticed that if you emptied the psych hosps you filled the prisons ( 1851)
and HE said - oh we have known that for years - but I didnt realised that it was the century before last ....

Mark is sent to prison for killing a cyclist after drink driving. He shares a cell with a man who self-harms and later dies. Mark puts a brave face on but it's a struggle, the violence and bullying. His assigned prison officer has his own problems. His son is in prison and this is used as leverage.
I assume this is a fairly realistic and unsensational representation of prison life. Parts of the drama were harrowing. Mark is an ordinary bloke. So you wonder how you could cope in his situation.
Watched the first two episodes last night and, but for the late hour, would have watched the third. I will definitely do that tonight. Given that it comes from the pen of Jimmy McGovern, and stars Sean Bean and Stephen Graham as the two main leads, how could it not be anything but gritty, hard-hitting story-telling at it's best. Of course many of us can only guess at just how realistic a portrayal of prison life this is, but knowing McGovern's almost rabid attention to detail, it probably isn't far off the mark.
