Funniest Tv Comedy Characters……..That You Either Lived Or Hated!
112 Answers
Just caught 10 mins of comedy series DINNERLADIES, and was in hysterics at the character Bren’s mother, played by Julie Walters. Omg she was absolutely brilliant - but I guess you either loved her or hated her. Guess that goes for the whole series tbh lol.
Any others??

what we do in the shadows is funny or has monents, comedy today is to woke with to many people offended at the slightest thing.
i call it entertainment outrage, some people siting watching waiting
to offended or are offended for other people..all very odd, like a pastime.

just checked, Zebo, actually half The Likely Lads episodes have survived, 10 out of 20. Not bad for the 1960s, when nobody saved anything. A couple were only found in 2018

I used to site Fawlty Towers of one of my favourites but it's worn a bit thin now. Love all of the Blackadders but particularly the 17th c era one with Queeny and Nursey and Lord Melchitt, of the older classics I liked Butterflies, Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Are You Being Served, The Liver Birds, Citizen Smith, The Good Life and particularly The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin.
More recent ones I've liked (and frequently re-watch): Black Books, The IT Crowd, Big Bang Theory, The Detectorists, The Office, Extras, Outnumbered, The Day Today, Brasseye, I'm Alan Partridge.
As for fav characters from the above, phew, where to start...
Reggie Perrin, CJ, Richard 3rd (Peter Cook) Melchitt, The Spanish Infanta, The Witch Finder Pusuivant, The Baby Killing Bishop of Bath and Wells, Queeny (Blackadder) Moss, Roy, Denholm Reyholm (IT Crowd) Manny, Bernard, (Black Books) Ben (Outnumbered) Sgt Major "shuttup!" Rangi (IAHHM) Mrs Slocomb (AYBS)
Woolfy (Citizen Smith) Pike, Mainwaring, Frazer (Dad's Army) Margot and Jerry (The Good Life) Gareth Keenan (The Office) "Simon and Garfunkel" (The Detectorists) ALL of the characters in The Day Today and Brasseye ....and Sheldon (BBT)

My earliest exposure to British comedy was Monty Python followed by Fawlty Towers. They were both weird and wonderful to my american sense of humour. Also the gentler...not laugh out loud...series such as The Good Life and As Time Goes By. There's another one with Wendy Craig that I liked but the name escapes me. Later ones include The Vicar of Dibley and AB Fab, Father Ted.
American series include classics like Mash, The Odd Couple, All in the Family, Taxi, The Golden Girls, Friends. I'm not sure there's been anything in the past few years that has grabbed me.
