People are entitled not to think he was all that because he trousered eight grand a time for Children In Need when every single other individual involved gave their time for free.
But you really don't have to voice your opinion of him on this thread, Andy.
Terry did donate his fees to the charity and actively raised a lot of money for CIN over the years.
I first encountered him in 1972 on the radio and found him highly entertaining, brightening up my daily commute no end.
But later on TV I felt he became the victim of his own success and got over-exposed (oooh, Matron) to his detriment (mainly I think because of the appalling Blankety Blank ). "Familiarity breeds contempt" probably applies here unfortunately.
He was much better on things like Eurovision Song Contest where his easy style and gentle banter really resonated for me.
