A Bit Late With This But.....

............last Sunday, after marching in Whitehall at the Remembrance Parade, when we got back onto Horseguards, there was Ross Kemp, right next to us, posing with all the veterans. I got the impression he was keen to be photographed with them and lots did. We had ours taken with him. He had a lot of medals on his right side and I asked him about them. He said they werre his grandfathers', who was a veteran of WW1 and WW2. He was really very nice and very accomodating with everyone. A nice experience all round.

There are photos of him wearing his medals with the veterans last week on his FaceBook page.  I believe his father served in the Royal Norfolk Regiment before joining the police

Having watched some of his documentary type series I get the impression he is sincere in his interest, and concern for those involved.

Are you officially allowed to wear the medals of your ancestors ?  Seems strange to me.

Yes, OG, you are allowed, but you must only wear them on the right side of your chest. This shows that you are representing a veteran. If you are a veteran, you wear them on the left side.

When my eldest grandson was an army cadet he was a standard bearer at the Remembrance Parade in Aberdeen.  He wore his great-grandad's WW2 medals but on the right side of his uniform.
