My wife's bosses have told her that they have to work every other saturday and every sunday through the month of jan(travel agent) they wont pay over time but they give her 1 lieu day for the sundays worked which has to be taken when they say,but it has to be taken before xmas. can these idots get away with this. my wife is only on minimum wage, this is with a well known high street agent. what can we do ?

not sure. But its only a month That's 2 saturdays and 4 sundays.

Though I fell your frustration and agree that some compnies do take the pees, if its only for the month of Jan. can she not do it and enjoy the days off in Dec?

On the flip side, she could check her contract which may state, in small print, that she may be asked to work during days/hours not part of her normal working week. So they could use this against you. If there is nothing like this in her contract then she could use that to her advantage.

What some companies dont realise is people have a life outside work.
As spaced says, check the employment contract. I'd guess though that as this is a high street shop (in effect) it has to be open at weekends and so employees need to work those days, especially during busy periods.

thanks for your answers guys but they are all take take take the shops are under staffed due to people leaving for better wages ect these hours will drastically affect our f/credit and i work every other weekend ,i earn 4 times her salery so its better for us if i work instead. it just feels like they want every ounce of blood out of you and not a word of thanks plus they dont know how hard it is to get child care they want basic rate as well
