Good film bad film??
13 Answers
Just seen the Nick Cage version of Wicker man, not as good as the original, what remake is? But I didn't think it was as bad as the IMDB score suggests(3.5). Have you ever watched a film thinking well that's entertaining enough only to find out that the general feeling of others is that it's a crock of sh1te? I gave it 6/10 by the way.

Many of the classical re-makes are doomed before they're even made so I don't know why they bother. The original classic's were outstanding which is why they remain classics today. Had they been rubbish they may have been worth a re-make but they were perfect (how do you improve on perfection??)
It's not just the story/characters that made it a classic but many other elements too: direction, casting, art direction, lighting, camera, sound, etc.. atmosphere/feel of the film. Taking just the story and characters into a re-make with todays production techniques just doesn't do them justice. Don't make um like they use to!
Also the people that make them - Nobody like Guy Richie cos his dad gave him the money to make a film so he's a spoilt rich brat in the critics eyes. He'll never get gd reviews because of who he is and becasue his films are pretty sh*t.
I wonder if anyone can remember the storyline to Waterworld. Huge budget, no story, not memorable. Planet of the Apes?? what was that? Willy wonker and the chocolate factory?? Awful.. can't think of any I've enjoyed.

I believe Shawshank Redemption flopped at the cinema. Find me one decent person in the western world who doesn't like it??
Re your remake question..................
Heat (De Niro) was better than the original
39 Steps (Robert Powell) was far superior to the two previous.
Red Dragon was better than Manhunter
Greystoke was better than ANY previous Tarzan movie
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was better than any previous Robin Hood
Bram Stokers Dracula (Hopkins) was better than any previous Dracula
However, apart from The Wickerman as you mentioned, surely The Italien Job and Planet of the Apes rate as the worse remakes EVERRRRRRRR.

The Poseidon Adventure - original was far better.
City of Angels - Loved the Nicholas Cage version and although i have not seen the original (I believe it had a different title), i believe general concesus is that the remake was far better.
Wicker Man - always wanted to see the original but after watching the remake, it put me off forever. I thought it was awful.

Sweet baby jebus. If there was a way to give that horrible waste of film a minus score i'd do it. It was sheeeeeeeeiiiiiiiite.
Ewar Woowar would be turning in his grave if he were dead.
I'm with Abdulmajid on this - he's almost right imho. (The remake of Willie Wonka made me do a little sick in my mouth - that would be joint worst with the Wickerman, Planet of the Apes and Alfie remakes.)
