Is anyone else completely disgusted that 3million will be spent on a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher!! I am appaled, i mean there is the invention of a cancer-stopping jab which we cant have because of the expense. Surely money could be spent on that instead!!
It is an insignificant sum in the overall scheme of things.
It is also less than significant when compared to the cost of the funeral of the Princess of Wales eleven years ago.
Few will agree I know, but given the choice of having had no Mrs Thatcher or no Princess of Wales, I think I could have done without "The People's Princess" but many of us may be struggling more than we are now without Mrs T.
Why the hell should the taxpayer foot the bill? Her family have enough money - if her crook of a son has managed to avoid assassination by the time she dies, he can spend some of his ill-gotten gains on a funeral for her.
As long as he remembers the proper precautions to prevent her return...
Would you rather spend money on -
Hospitals, schools + curing disease
or
A place where you can visit a dead old lady and laugh (which does sound interesting)
I am disgusted that she is 'honoured' in this way - a state funeral should be reserved for the great and the good - she doesn't qualify in either creiteria.
Yet another boring Thatcher-bash by people whom I consider to be wishy-washy flabby near-traitors. She was very very very popular in her day, damn it she was re-elected and re-elected.
She said in the House (approx) "I never thought I would see the day when a British Prime Minister was criticised for sinking an enemy ship in time of war". Spot on matey.
Best ever PM after Churchill. Blair a close third.
Well she wasn't very popular with me .Although I think she was quite popular with a mass murderer called Pinochet .
She must be worth mega bucks .Why should the taxpayer be expected to cough up to send her off in style.
Next thing you know we'll have everyTom Dick and Harry wanting a state funeral .Tut !
Italy was on the Allied side during the First World War, a member of the Axis during the Second World War. The point being that things change. You can't judge Thatcher by Pinochet as was then, anymore than you can criminalise the USA for supporting the Taliban against USSR when they did.
History and human experience never stand still. Life is now becoming a year-to-year struggle to hold the inevitable at bay. Just another war may gain another 5 years for the free world, buit nothing is permanent.
