Faith & Hope conjoined twins...
Have just heard on the news that baby Hope, one of the conjoined twins has died whist being separated at Gt Ormond Street Hospital.
It's so sad, especially after seeing pictures of her & her sister Faith cuddled up together only yesterday.
Bless them.

Poor little mites, going through so much & so early on in life. I do 'hope' Faith pulls through & goes on to live a healthy, happy life......
It must be torture for their parents, even though they both said they'd try to be strong before the operation began.

It is sad but UK infant mortality is 5 per 1,000
That's a staggering 10 a day.
And we're one of the best countries.
What's fabulous is that they even had a chance -I'd imagine few of us here would have had that had we been born that way.
Even more fabulous is that they have had that chance despite coming from a less than wealthy background.

Yes my heart goes out to the parents in their hours of grief, and I do hope that Faith manages to pull through, and develops into a normal healthy young Lady. Now I have to say something that will not make me very popular, but whats new?
Having been advised earlier to have the births terminated, were the parents wise, if not a little selfish to go ahead and have the twins?
Apart from the suffering, and now the death of one of the twins, and the chance that the surviving one may never enjoy a normal life, there is the fact that the very long operation took up the time and resorses of a very clever surgical team, who's skills could have been put to a more successful outcome.
The mother is only 18, so there is plenty of time for her to have other children.

I must admit AOG that I would have had a termination.
Apparently, they were guided by their religious views. I feel very sorry for them and wish the surving baby well, but yes I think they were selfish because they put their own needs first.
However, I don't agree with you about them washing NHS time and resources. The NHS is there to treat us and treat us all the same whether we smoke, are overweight, have decided to not abort our conjoined twins, etc. etc.

Brrr, it's freezing out there, so 'scuse any typo's.
Anyway, AOG, I have to be perfectly honest here. If I had have been told I was expecting conjoined twins, I'm sure after a lot of soul searching, I would have opted for a termination, but only in the very early stages. The reasons being, is that I couldn't have gone full term, then give birth, knowing that there would be complicated surgery &/or further medical procedures ahead for them.
On the other hand, once you've seen a baby's heart beating away on a monitor, let alone two, it must be an extremely painful & difficult decision to make - ending their lives before they've even been given the chance to survive.
As for the cost to the NHS, that wouldn't even come into it. There are lots of people out there that smoke or drink themselves to near death, then rely on the NHS to offer them medical treatment to 'get better'.

Hi mrs_o - I know, it made me sit up & inhale too!
I was nearly 18 when I had our first daughter & can't imagine how I'd have felt about it, let alone my caring husband.
People shouldn't be so quick to judge, as everyone has a different story to tell.....God help these parents, however old they are & the remaining little one.
It's probably because people & others with that attitude 'assume' we're all going to end up paying for their upbringing, but it isn't always the case. -xx-

Hang on there!
First, it is only polite to address me first if you have some comment to make regarding my comment.
....the mother is only 18 so there is plenty of time for her to have other children..
I can see nothing wrong in this, I am only stating a fact. I had already stated my sadness over this matter, and in some way tried to comfort her in some way at her sad loss, just as I would if I could see her face to face, maybe saying " never mind you are only young, there is still time for you to have another baby".
What on earth is wrong with that?
