BBC 2 are showing The Wire on consecutive nights from next week. What are people's views on it as I have heard that it is very difficult to get to grips with.

Once you get into the "street slang"after a couple of episodes it's brilliant
Is it being shown from series 1 ? If it is then it is a cracking programme which only began to run out of steam in series 4.

Highly rated.
I am intrigued by this show. I have heard it described as the single greatest drama ever shown on TV, that it is "Shakesperean" "epic" and "intellectually extraordinary" yet i don't know a single person who has ever seen it. So i'll certainly be watching and hoping it lives up to the hype!
It's good, in fact it is very good, but it's not as good as Homicide: Life on the Streets...
It is often cited by critics and fans as the best ever drama made. Although it had very poor viewing figures it has emerged as a cult fave and has done better on DVD than it did as a TV Show.
I loved it but personally think that Deadwood is the best thing that i have ever seen. That just blew me away.
The Wire and Homicide; life on the streets are both excellent, but what will ever top The Sopranos ?
i think i'm on my own but i thought it was cr@p
