20 minutes in and I'm not too sure about it....they seemed to take that blast all in their stride! Its a bit superficial I think.

Does anyone the club hit that was playing just before he was made to change the record at gunpoint? It was a massive massive anthem in the 90s, been bugging me ever since.

Thanks scrivens but not any of those bands that I actually know (there are 6 I don't). This was an instrumental only, I'd have classed it as euphoric dance/trance music. Maybe I can find a clip of the programme.

^ That missed out my text, it starts at 20.40
I wandered off after half an hour. Good actors, promising setting, but very a disappointing drama. One minute he's in a disaster zone, the next he's driving her home: One minute he's happily married, the next he's having a mid life crisis: it was very poor and disjointed. No tension or continuity.
Complete hogwash! The entire first episode based on a bet that could not possibly have been struck. As described by 'Robbo', it consisted of 26 bets (called a 'Canadian' in betting parlance) and, if successful, would return over £450,000. The problem is that, whilst prices would have been available for England's first 3 games - the group games - they would not have been available for the games in the knock-out stages of the competition as their opponents would not be known until the completion of the groups. If the writer cannot be bothered to get that simple fact correct, considering it's importance to the plot, why should we be bothered to watch?

I know nothing about betting on football matches, so any error there may have been didn't spoil the programme for me. I'm looking forward to next week's episode.
Scrivens you are a star XX and it was on your list :-)
Sorry to digress of your post Elina. It didn't really hold my attention after the first 25 minutes so won't be heartbroken if I miss the next episode.
Felt it was all a bit flat. Kept expecting the "father" to say "Gi's a Job" as in Boys from the Black Stuff. However, I shall be watching next week as it has lots of potential.

Robbo's plan to bomb his own club has a few major flaws. Firstly, the bomb on the Saturday was preceded by a coded warning but the security forces did not have time to defuse it. Apparently none was given when the club was blown up at the end. Secondly, IRA bombs had a sort of signature (i did 3 tours of the province in the mid 70s to early 80s), be it the way the were put together, the explosive used or method of detonation. I wonder if, in next week's episode, these things will be picked up on by whoever is sent to investigate the bomb. Or will the lazy writer merely assume that we know as much about the IRA as he believes we know about betting on football tournaments. And, whilst it may seem that i am banging on a bit about this, i really hate it when scriptwriters take us as complete idiots who will swallow any old guff.
I agree with some of the comments about the script and not enough research done, and after the bomb went off, would the father, 2 sons and the cleaner just be allowed to go home without the police wanting to chat to them?

What happened in the last 3 minutes when they were in a shelter at the beach, she said had he tried to find his real parents, then I lost signal because of storm, and missed the ending?
^^

England lost on penalties and the 'impossible' bet went down. Glennister's character discovered the bomb in the club and phoned his brother who raced to the scene. Bomb exploded. Roll credits!

You're probably right ken, although like Naomi, I wouldn't have known about the betting & look forward to seeing the next episode!
^^

Then, for some, it would seem that ignorance is bliss:-)

The 'gambling' issue aside, i still thought it, at best, mediocre with none of the characters convincing enough to give a stuff about .
