My four chosen Links are as follows:

Pitch PERFECT (or PERFECT Pitch)
Field MOUSE (or Field MICE)
CONS Table (a trick often used by MM)
Court ROOM (or Court ROOMS)

These alternatives are permitted in the Rules.

The "first-time" spotters did well to find some difficult Links. However, the second of the entries came from JimJools when they struck gold at 09.04 with Field MOUSE and earned a big bonus point. Four minutes later (and 8 entries on) came rogerr with a simple "tap in" from Court ROOM (was this just too obvious to be chosen?).

The initial rush calmed down (and the 2-minute rule put away for another week) and at 09.21 in came JRB to bowl a ball at the PERFECT Pitch (another bonus point gone). I felt sure that I could hold onto my sneaky last Link until (16 minutes later) on came the equally sneaky Magyar to correctly predict CONSTABLE. (Well done indeed)

These points aside, no one else scored two points (for two delayed "Hits") although 14 ABers scored single hits. Rather surprisingly, some predictions were
squandered by containing only three letters or even nine letters. All my chosen Links contain between four and eight letters! Some entrants kept their links in a sporting theme in spite of the warnings to avoid doing so.

All in all, a challenging Round with some sadly extending their run of ZERO scores. At the other extreme is the perverse Dustybun who wished to extend his
string of failures. He was finally brought tumbling down when he came head to head with the humble FIELDMOUSE!

The running totals will appear in detail (below after a short while). Let it be said that there has been ONE entrant who has reached FOUR points - or should I
say THEY have reached FOUR points. THEY are being chased by three others on THREE points.

More to follow - but the leaders have initials JJ.

I have just closed down the earlier posting and have directed everyone HERE.

At the old posting I found three additional entries all of which have had their scores entered onto the spreadsheet.
Nice to welcome back jayemcee after a brief absence. As correctly described by POINCIANA, this has been a "lark", No-one takes it seriously - but we'll all be there next Saturday at 8.45, waiting in the shrubbery for 9.00 to come -and mumbling incoherently about the 2-minute rule!

The third person still sitting at the old posting was swannbaker - yet another overseas ABer? I challenge you to declare yourselves (and put AGINcourt behind us). Is it true that the two-fingered V-sign has its origins there? Your entry in French and English scored "nil points".

We had two new particiants, Bennio and freebi, who learned how difficult is the game and how crazy we all are! We also had a visit from patchett and we all hope that his great grand daughter Chloe is thriving.

Over the first two weeks the Table stands as follows:
4 points: JimJools (ONE early first hit on both weeks)
3 points: JRB and rogerr (one point last week, but two this week). Also Tenter who failed to add to the excellent score last week (how often have we heard THAT, O-ice?).
2 points: Arabesque, Elspeth, kettledrum, Magyar and sarumite (what a mean-looking bunch!)

So far, the international entrants are holding back for bets!

That's it for this week, the stars are *** JimJools*** -
Will they stay the course! See you all next week.

Finally, thoughts at the close of play go to Pauline xxx
God bless!
My thoughts are for Pauline too--puts everything in perspective doesn't it--lol P if you are looking in.
By the way, my comment yesterday aout the shrubery was an incredibly inane attempt at a joke, not a criticism of the rules.
Yes, our thoughts are with you , Pauline.

And while I'm on, can someone please tell this (relative) newcomer exactly what LOL means? I assume it is Lots of Love, but Google gives it as Lots of Laughs.

I'm sure I speak for all ABers when I say that for you, Paulene, it means lots of love. Good night.
It means: Laugh Out Loud
Wow - Can I keep it up? Well I will give it my best shot next Saturday. :-)

And ofcourse my thoughts are with Pauline too. Hope you are ok. Jools xx
Congratulations Jools, well done.
Crofter, I don't know about the international pack holding back for bets.
Right now we feel like a couple of mice who were con(ned) by a pitch)fork) and had to flee the room.
Do we get any points for jesting?
Thank you O-ice. And I think you deserve extra points for that. :-)
Very well done Jools, but watch out next week ... as crofter says there is a mean looking bunch coming up behind you !! ☺☺☺☺ !!

Best wishes ;o)

There is no need to explain rogerr - you are amongst friends and we all know what you mean. Being friends means you NEVER need to explain - you will be understood. Never lose you sense of humour or apologise for it. It is the common currency that binds us together.

The Links Game serves no other purpose than to bring like-minded people together once a week. For those taking part, LOL means whatever is appropriate at that moment.

Of all the tributes expressed recently, none carried more impact than Aquagility's analogy of a ship sailing over he horizon! How elegant! How fitting! How noble of Aquagility
to share these thoughts!

I think it would be truly sad if the Links Game were to permitted to lose its appeal. It is the joy that we share in the simple acts of life that gives us the depths of feeling to react to the tragedies. Lose those simple joys and our compassion will also be lost.

Let me say two things more, "Well done JimJools!!!!"
And "LOL to you ALL"!!!!

Whilst I've been writing the above, four or five postings have come on board which are soul-lifting.

Well done! You CRAZY CROWD!
Just popped on for 5 mins. Thought I'd take a look at the Links game this weekend and how you all did, while I am having a moment to myself.
Well done JimJools...and hear hear Crofter.

Thanks S..you belonging to a mean bunch? Never!
Just got to pop and pick my daughter up now, will pop back on as soon as I get another chance.
Hope you are well..presume you and Kayakamina have been busy? Not checked yet.
Love pauline xx
Well done JimJools!

thank you for another exciting game crofter. So I have scored a point - wow! That means I'm a failure at being a failure!! I shall have to rethink my strategy! And in view of all the tumbling I'm doing, can I just mention that I am a laydee!! :O)

Note to self .....Must get up earlier on a Saturday !

Thanks for this bit of fun Crofter .But I doubt I shall ever see my name in lights I have enough trouble seeing the light on the alarm clock .But I shall persevere......

Nice to see you Pauline .....been thinking of you xxx

Morning all, well I can see that lurking in the shrubbery and getting nettle rash did me no good whatsoever, but sincere congratulations to JimJools and all others scoring points

Another excellent competition this week, crofter - you have us all on our toes and at the mercy of your inventive brain.

Special mention, - Dustybun - Good one, and I did have you pegged as a laydee !!! something about men in kilts gave you away.

Great to see you Pauline, glad you felt up to keeping an eye on us, hope you'll feel up to joining in again very soon - you know we're all thinking of you and will continue to do so xxx

And by my calculations it's coming up to midnight, so sleep well all, night night - S
Good night seekeerz. Your messages to me have been really appreciated. Wasn't too good yesterday, but not so bad tonight. I know it will be like that for a while.

Shaneystar....am sure you are going to just go in for the kill next week and get all 4!
Will e-mail you later in the week. Love pauline xx
Question Author
4 out of 4, shaneystar? In your dreams!
Crofter!....hope nobody tells her what you have said.
Anyway the bigger shock for you would be if I manage to get on and beat them all to it.

Thanks so much for being there this week Crofter along with everyone else.
