The dashboard ABS Warning Light has just come on, and I was wondering if it was dangerous to drive if there may be a problem with my ABS. My car (Rover 75) still seems to brake ok, and the only difference I can tell is that when i first applied the brakes there was a slight grinding feel to the brake pedal. Could I just need new brake pads, as they are now about 2 years old?
The ABS is not functioning, that is not related to the pads which if you are feeling grinding do need changing. It is safe to drive but be aware that you will have no ABS so if you brake hard you can lock the wheels.
Car will be fine to drive, sounds like ABS is activating when pushing the brake pedal, the grinding sound is the ABS pump activating.Probably means broken ABS ring one of the driveshafts or hubs of the car.But whould get it checked out sooner than later.
