CD Player Problem

Don't know if motoring is the right place or not really but it is a car stereo so this will do. Recently, when I play CD's in my car I sometimes get a sort of interuption. The song keeps playing but it sounds as though I'm listening to the radio and the signal is going, sort of a crackling noise. It doesn't happen constantly but seems to be getting more often. It's now starting to either not read CD's at all or take ages to read them once you put them in. I've tried various CD's and it happends with all of them. It's a factory fit CD player in a VW Golf. Any ideas what it might be and what I can do to fix it?

They're not copies. All originals and ones that have worked fine previously. Will try the cleaner. Thanks
