I have a 2006 astra and this morning I went out and it developed a knocking that seems to coming from the front nearside wheel
It happens only over 25 mph ,it is on the overrun , on accelerating ( mildly) and on both locks but remember I am moving reasonably fast so no tight turns
It is not always knocking but whenever it does happen if you apply pressure to the brake pedal it stops
I have taken the wheel off and had a look there is nothing loose ,nothing hanging and nothing obvious between the pad/ disc space but I didn't take the caliper off
Any ideas
Does it knock badly reversing around corners on full lock, if so it will be your CV joints other than that, wheel bearing, suspension mount rubber. Need to get it checked pretty quick.
If it stops knocking, that is the time to worry, whatever was knocking has fallen off!! :-)
It's the CV joint ... probably the outer one.
Common on Astras when they get some welly : )
Get the car jacked up and check for play (rotational play)
Be sure it's the near side .. sometimes it's impossible to tell .. as the noise carries through the transmission to both sides.
Hi thanks for all the answers
It was /is the differential and it is big bucks to fix and apparently a common problem thrashed or not as I dont drive hard now because I pay the bills
Thanks Again
