Hi.

I wanted to test out my new Subaru Impreza's high end speed, I think it'll do above 160mph. Is there any chance I can join the police force temporarily so that I can do those speeds on the road for a while without getting knicked?

Why not join the Specials   ;)
No, the new speed limit is 159mph.
jensen B can now go 180 on m25 and say i was just practising your worship.
I know you'll be tempted to kick off at me for this, but just a tiny suggestion - might this question not be better placed in the "motoring" section?

ROFL at Didwot, good one, I didn't even consider that.

acw, it's a news item.

I AM REALLY ANNOYED ABOUT THIS, BTW.!!! (Having paid for going 15 over myself)

Yes I agree acw . MargeB try the scouts!

MargeB you should indicate that it is a news item or put a link in your question. Here is the link acw.

ROFL at this news article.

"The road was deserted at the time and driving conditions were good"

SO WHAT????????

Can I do 160 in the same conditions then? ARGH!

How is 160 NOT DANGEROUS?

How is 60 in a 30 NOT DANGEROUS?

I loved ITN: 'Do you think you got off for being a police officer'. 'No comment'.

This belongs in Jobs & Careers section.

How so?

Well, because you said "Is there any chance I can join the police force temporarily?"  (Durrrr! :-p )

Just be pleased it wasn't answered with a link to the police recruitment page - I know how links get your back up!

Oh and as I tihnk you want someone to say it - well done for getting a new car that goes really really fast.  :-)

I don't have an Impreza, and I don't want to join the police, but I am AMAZED that someone can do 159mph on the motorway, 60 in a 30, and then get let off COMPLETELY cos he's a police officer. 'Practising'. GO AND PRACTICE AT THE TRANSPORT LAB. A child could EASILY have been killed on the 30, you don't have a rat's chance against someone doing 60. What if he'd killed someone? Would he get off cos he was 'practising'? People get put away for years for causing death by dangerous driving, yet this muppet gets let off cos he was a copper 'practising'. And what kind of message does this send out to 'boy racers'?

Oh right.  *blushes* I couldn't be bothered to read the newpaper article - just the headlines.  I agree it's absolutely horrendous that this can be allowed.  They should sack him and take his driving licence away at the LEAST!

(for the record I didn't actually think you wanted to join the police! :-p But I'll own up to thinking you had a new car!)

Yep unquestionably jobs and careers why not fly instead!!

This belongs in the How It Works section. (not how the car works, how the law works)

No going at that speed got to be travel!!!!

Apparently it was 84mph in a 30 zone. Think that was on ITV news tonight. just seen the date on that too. The middle of winter, hmmm. What if he'd hit a patch of ice somewhere?
Maybe police marksmen should also practise in public places to give them experience of operating in a realistic environment.
They had a good practise at the baton charge on those fox hunters didnt they!!
