Has anyone used the FREE 12-point winter car check you get at Halfords when you collect the vouchers from Esso?
Any catch?

Hi ummmm x
Nope, not got any, but we dont often fill up at an Esso garage......beware of catches, my lovely.....it seems to be a ploy to get you in the service department....then might come the phone call that your car has an amber, possibly red warning ( they used to use that as a sign whats important ) and needs a fix.
I wouldnt trust Halfords at all now, after having a couple of services and M.O.T's done there in previous years and EVERY time they foung something they said was wrong on the cars, which had flown through services and M.O.T's before.......the garage we used may be an exception, but I dont doubt that they really LOOK to see if they can find fault, so you feel obliged to book it in and they charge you a fortune for, basically, something your car doesnt need.
My advice, find an independent trustworthy, maybe family-run business, that depends on word of mouth and repeat work to survive,,,that way you'll get an great honest service and care for your cars. We have 3 mechanics we can totally trust to give us an unbiased opinion on what needs to be done on the cars, and they even try out cleaning procedures/spray and engine flushing for example, before seeing if parts need changing... to see if they can fix fault for little cost to us...the customer.....if not, they know they tried, and advise next course of action.
In regards to M.O.T's we now use this firm, who have NO attachment to garages of any kind and give you an unbiased opinion on the test, so no gain to be made. If something is pointed out and fails, you can then have your own mechanic fix it and you can re-submit, free of charge, if you present car within 10 days of failure. Happy days :0)
( sorry for the waffle......and, i would add, I just paid £220 for years road tax today at the Post Office for a new tax disc for our family 8 seater, so i'm a bit pi s sed off )
