my renault clio starts up every time with smoke from the exhaust. i had it serviced but that has not solved the problem. when it's driving it is fine, what could be wrong with it??

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.This is common on older engines. The valve seals start to leak a bit and when the car is parked a bit of oil gets into the cylinders and causes smoke on starting.
It would be quite expensive to fix and shouldn't affect your MOT so I'd not worry too much about it.
Unless the car's new of course which would be quite a different matter.
