I have just received an enquiry from a friend in Australia who is visiting the UK very soon, it concerns the right of way at a road junction, the question was as follows: "If you are approaching an intersection (not controlled by lights) and you want to turn Left, do you have to give way to a car coming in the opposite direction that has signalled to turn right"
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

No, if turning left you have right of way over oncoming traffic.
You should look out for pedestrians that maybe crossing though.

No, simple as that.
In Australia you would have to give way - hence the question.
Sensible to find out in advance.
don't know about Australia - in NZ you had to give way, but they've dropped the law now.
I think 'intersection' needs defining.
Get them a copy of The Highway Code

" I think 'intersection' needs defining"

Zac's right, if it's got a roundabout on it then you have to give way to cars coming from your right.
If you gave way to a car turning right, across your bow, you'd cause an almighty crash behind you.

If it was a roundabout then obviously give way to the traffic coming from your right.
He (she?) will also need to beware traffic lights on red.
In the UK you cannot make a left turn when light is on red, whereas in Australia (at least in NSW, possibly other states are different) you can.
