There are many story's regards Car Insurance Claims, Drivers loosing their NCB due to no fault of their own by devious other drivers, do you not think the time has come for all cars / Vans, HGV's /Buses to be fitted, you have seen the camera in use by Motorcyclist / Bikes etc, should cameras be fitted by law?

From the above link. // in some cases we may talk to you about fitting a location tracker. An example of this could be if you live in a care home and a number of drivers have access to your car. If a location tracker is identified as appropriate, we will always speak to you in advance of the tracker being fitted.//
Ratter that link is out of date, the newsletter about it was earlier this year, it specifically said ALL new issue Motability cars will be supplied with trackers fitted by January 2016.
EDDIE, This is an up to date link as far as I can see, http://www.motability.co.uk/about-us/faqs/what-are-location-trackers
I can't see a date on that but I'm sure there was an item about it in the last newsletter we got in May or June.
EDDIE, I dont think that legally they would be permitted to track anybody without their consent, our car is ordered and we pick it up in a few weeks, there was no mention of it when ordering the car. You may be right but I dont think so, I certainly cant find anything about it apart from what I have posted.
Ratter, lots of leased cars have trackers as they are easier to recover if stolen.

I don't see why cars leased through the motability scheme should be any different especially as the cost includes insurance. The use of trackers can keep insurance costs down.
H, also the website says that they will talk to us before fitting one and that it will be on less than 6% of cars. I also think we are talking about different types of tracker, you are talking about a tracker that will locate a stolen car, I am talking about a tracker that feeds back all the activities of the car.
The item I saw made it clear that this was a full time tracker. It mentioned 'monitoring driving habits' and logging the location of the car at all times.
Possibly this was just a proposal for the future or a trial, again I am sure the date was from January 2015.
But as you know a Motability car is supplied by a charity solely for the benefit of the disabled person, they only lease it Motability own it. I can fully understand why they would like to have more idea how their own property is being used.
What are the legal aspects of having a dash cam in your car ?
Is the recorded footage your property ?

If you were in a serious accident , which was your fault , would you be legally bound to disclose that you had a dash cam and disclose the recorded footage ?

Your dashcam, your recording, your property.

No, you do not have to submit the evidence if it puts you in a bad light.

I'm sure, although the Unit is your Property HC, If an accident occurred you would be required to provide the evidence from the Cameras Card.
I agree TWO, the court could request it. You could of course delete it!
why force people to do something which is in their interests anway ?

even the Police have dropped their stance ( priddy quig actually ) of never allowing someone to photograph a policeman doing his duty ( hem hem ) because so many people are doing it anyway

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/teenager-handcuffed-police-after-giving-9640333

said to reqd in eastern europe which is why there are so many web cam collages on U - tube from there
Ratter, the courts and police would have to know the dashcam was in the car and working in the first place. You don't have to volunteer that information although you shouldn't lie about it.

It is easy to forget to put the memory card back in it and viewing it on your pc.

HC, not getting diverted from the OP, If I was in a position to help regards the O.B.C. I would without hesitation, there have been a number of accidents around our area Involving the lucky lucky boys, who when the accident occurs from reports, there was only one person in the can, that said, many come forward of the same breed as the lucky lucky boys, saying they were in the car, there has also been a big scam on involving the same people removing their Brake Light Bulbs causing the rear Following driver to run up that car's rear end.
OBC? Lucky lucky boys?

On Board Cameras, the other, Asians as reported in the Man Area.
my oh bought a car camera( not expensive)but it interfered with the satnav .
Don't know why you refer to Asians as lucky lucky boys, but never mind, TWR.

Of course if my dashcam provided evidence against someone else I would happily surrender the memory card, that's what I have it for. If it provided evidence of my own stupidity, carelessness or bad driving I might not. It would be just my luck other drivers could prove it because they have dashcams, too. :D

mallyh, I use my Nexus 7 tablet as a satnav (much better than my TomTom) and there is no interference, luckily.
