Icon problems

I am having a minor problem with my IBM Thnkpad ...I have an icon layout that suits me and 99% of the time it stays the way I set it up....then...when I do a restart...or, more irritatingly, whenever I attach a flash-drive or my iPod etc... the icons all change position and will not revert to MY arrangement until I "drag and drop" them back! Most annoying. I've tried all the "arrange icons by,.." but with no luck. Is there anybody out there who has the answer?? I am sure there is a simple cure but as an OAP newcomer, on a steep learning curve, I could sure use a bit of advice!!

Welcome to the strange world of computers !.

I have been working with computers for years but never heard of anything like this.

I searched in Google for similar problems and it seems other people get it as well, but I cannot find a solution.

What version of Windows are you on ?

I am on Windows XP and when I right click on the desktop, then choose the "Arrange Icons By" option I get a menu option called "Lock Web items on Desktop". Does using that help ?

Hi vehelpfulguy!   Sadly locking web items doesn't help...I thought I had tried it before...but did it again just now..and they locked ok. ( with a totally altered background!) ...but when I popped in the iPod...they still did their silly "confetti" trick and landed in yet another arrangement...grrrr!!  Hey Ho...back to the drawingboard!  Thanks for the sug though...anything is worth a try and yes I am on Windows XP on an 18 month old T41 IBM Thinkpad, otherwise with no problems..well...none I have found ..YET!
